Thyroid Eye Disease
Thyroid eye disease (TED), also known as Graves' Disease, is an autoimmune condition that affects the eyes. It is caused by the body's immune system attacking the tissues around the eye, including the muscles, fat, and connective tissue.
TED is most common in people with hyperthyroidism, an overactive thyroid. However, it can also occur in people with hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid.
If you have questions about thyroid eye disease, it is important to seek care with an eye care professional.
